Private by default.
Public on purpose.
Every entry begins in your vault, visible to you alone. Sharing isn't a setting you forget to turn off — it's a deliberate, reversible step. Promote a post to a clean URL at your own @handle, and pull it back private whenever you want.

Lock it, and it leaves no trace.
Lock an entry behind a passphrase — separate from your login — and it's purged from every search index, yours and the web's. A 15-minute unlock window, dropped the moment you leave the tab. Built for the borrowed laptop.

Questions, answered
Is my private writing actually private?
Yes. Every entry is private until you explicitly publish it. Locked entries are removed from every search index and are never written anywhere as plaintext we expose.
What happens to my writing if I downgrade?
Nothing is taken from you. Downgrading freezes editing on existing entries but never touches your ability to read, view, or export them. You can still unpublish or unlock anything — de-escalation is never trapped. Paywall the future, never the past.
Do I need Pro to publish or lock?
Yes. Publishing an entry to a public URL and passphrase-locking entries or collections are Pro capabilities. Free gives you an unlimited private vault — unlimited entries and tags, one collection — with full read and export forever. You just can't share out, lock, or add more collections until you upgrade.
Is the lock real encryption?
The lock is an honest access gate that keeps other people on your device out — it is not end-to-end encryption, and we're upfront about that. Gated content is still never indexed or exposed as plaintext.
Can I really export everything?
Always, on any plan. You get an open .tar.gz archive of Markdown plus a JSON manifest — your words come with you, no lock-in.
